Who's That in the Sarong and Kebaya?

Bayer Aspirin advertisement from colonial Singapore.

I found this advertisement from Singapore from around 1930 for Bayer aspirin.

I can’t figure out who this woman is supposed to be. The guy is so old that it’s hard to tell if he is Chinese or Malay. It’s therefore hard to tell who this woman is. Is she the Malay maid of some old Chinese guy? Is she his Nonya granddaughter? Is this a Malay man and his granddaughter? I can’t figure it out. It is interesting though as it is one of the only images that I have found from this period of someone wearing entirely “traditional” dress.
