This year, Phan Lê Hà and I, with the support of a wonderful team of associate series editors, editorial board members and a series editorial assistant, launched a new book series with Springer Nature called “Global Vietnam: Across Time, Space and Community.”

Four volumes have already been published, and several more will be published soon. The volumes that have been published to date are:

Reading South Vietnam’s Writers: The Reception of Western Thought in Journalism and Literature edited by Thomas Engelbert and Chi P. Pham

English Language Education for Graduate Employability in Vietnam edited by Tran Le Huu Nghia, Ly Thi Tran and Mai Tuyet Ngo

A Narrative Inquiry into the Experiences of Vietnamese Children and Mothers in Canada: Composing Lives in Transition by Thi Thuy Hang Tran

Heritage Conservation and Tourism Development at Cham Sacred Sites in Vietnam: Living Heritage Has A Heart by Quang Dai Tuyen

What led us to establish this book series was the awareness that we gained from organizing the Engaging With Vietnam: An Interdisciplinary Dialogue conference series for the past fourteenth years that there is an expanding community of scholars who are producing knowledge about Vietnam on what we can call “global” scales.

First, one can now find scholars working on Vietnam in an ever-growing number of places across the globe. Second, their scholarship has increasingly been informed by larger, and even global, perspectives. We therefore saw the need to highlight these new trends.

We also see the need to bring focus to this expanding world of knowledge production about Vietnam and to seek to find ways to bring people into dialogue with each other. This is precisely what the Engaging With Vietnam conference series has always endeavored to do. However, we are now also launching a new journal (with another great team of associate editors, editorial board members and a managing editor) with that same goal. The journal is called Global Vietnam, and it will be an open-access journal published by Amsterdam University Press.

We will provide more information about the journal, including how to submit articles for consideration, in early 2024.

Meanwhile, for anyone who wishes to submit a proposal for a monograph or edited volume to the Global Vietnam book series, the book proposal form is available on the Springer website.

This has been a very busy but productive year. In August, we held the largest Engaging With Vietnam conference to date, with over 700 participants and registered guests, in beautiful Hue, Vietnam, and the Global Vietnam book series got off to a wonderful start.

We look forward to another productive year in 2024, and wish to thank everyone who has been part of this dynamic year of 2023 for your participation and support!!! And congratulations to the authors of the first four volumes in the Global Vietnam book series!!!
