Thai hair cream advertisement from the 1930s or 1940s.

“Don’t hide from me dear. The fragrant and cool aroma of Brylcreem always tells me where you’re hiding” is more or less what this man is saying. Brylcreem was a men’s pomade which was created in England in 1928. This ad is from either the late 1930s or early 1940s. The text on the left indicates that this product had been sold in Thailand for years by this point.

Whenever I go into a bathroom in a department store in Bangkok there are always Thai guys there meticulously checking their hair. I don’t know which came first, the Thai desire for neat hair or the Western products for making one’s hair look nice, but this advertisement indicates that both this desire and the products which cater to it have been prominent in Thailand for many years.
