Someone pointed out that none of the advertisements from Singapore have Malay language in them. To be fair, I have been looking at Chinese newspapers, and there were Malay newspapers in Singapore and Malaya, which of course had advertisements in Malay. In any case, a long time ago I did find this advertisement with the Malay words for “This is good!” on it. I can’t remember when this is from. And finally, is it just me, or do these two guys look like they must be chauffeurs? I have some friends who would probably get a little bent out of shape at seeing Malays depicted that way. . . ah the culturally insensitive colonial days. . .
